  1. I would side with everyone else- David's Bridal is going to cost you more in alterations...But use discretion & really do your homework with an independent seamstress too.  You usually get what you pay for.  make sure they are well knowledged in wedding gowns & ask to see thier work in progress if they have something similar.  If you have a complicated or beaded gown, you would need to find someone used to dealing with that sort of thing as well.  best of luck!

  2. David's bridal did amazing alterations on my gown in general.  The dress ended up being too short for the shoes I bought, but that was partialy my fault.

THey charge an arm & a leg.  It's like video game units.  They sell the consoles for cheap, but then charge a ton for games and accessories.  David's Bridal charges a reasonable amount for Wedding Dresses with hopes you'l use them for Bridesmaid's dresses, purses, tiaras, undergarments, alterations, and shoes.

If $ isn't an issue, then stick with Dvid's bridal.  If it is, find a REPUTABLE tailor that is good with wedding dresses.

  3. get your alterations done no more than 3 months prior to the wedding.  If you are someone whose weight fluctuates often, you'll need to be really careful about your diet.  I purchased my dress from David's Bridal and opted not to have them do the alterations.  I too had heard stories about delays and poor quality alteration work.  If I were you, I would talk to someone in a smaller bridal shop.  You saved money on your dress purchasing it through David's...it will be worth it to spend a little on the alterations.  I'm glad I did.

  4. I'm a bridal consultant (not at David's though, but I have worked there before).  My sister bought her gown at David's for her wedding this past January.  She got her alterations done elsewhere, for less than 1/2 what the same would have been done at David's.   While I couldn't say this when I worked for them, you're going to be better off getting the alterations done someplace else.  David's sells their dresses cheaply, and they know it.  They bank that MOST brides will get their alterations done there in house, so they charge a premium for them, sometimes more than twice what they should.  You're going to be money ahead by simply picking your dress up from David's, and going to another place for alterations.  You should be able to find a good, independent tailor/dressmaker who can handle wedding dress alterations.  Start checking around, so that when your dress arrives, you can get the process started.

I would ideally take your dress as soon as you get it in.  That way, there's plenty of time, and you're not rushing.

    Good luck!

  5. well i am getting married in september and my dress only took 2 weeks to get and it fits perfect. But i know that alterations dont take but a few days they assured me that and also, id wait untill right before like a mth or so so if you gain or lose weight congrats

  6. I am having my alterations done elsewhere (I bought my dress at davids bridal too). I did a lot of research and found someone cheaper with SOLID references.

As for the time, I would have them done three to five weeks before the photos.

  7. I would go elsewhere.  I knew a bride who had alterations done there and not only did a few of her bridemaid dresses have seams that popped but so did the brides!  Not a good thing to happen on your wedding day!  I believe that they mass produce their alterations.  I would go to a local seamstress who does her own work.  That way you can feel confident in HER abilities because you do not know who will do your alterations at David's Bridal.

    Hope this helps :0)

  8. My friend used to work there and I have known several people who have gotten their alterations done there. The people I knew were not to happy with the alterations - not only because it took to long but because they overcharged them as well. In one case my friends dress wasn't done until 2 days before the wedding...needless to say she was a little panicky. I strongly advise that you take it to a reliable seamstress in your area. Get some references from you friends...or go on theknot.com and go to the message forums in your area. I am sure some of the brides on there will be able to point you in the right direction.

    Good luck!

  9. Go to an independent seamstress for alterations. I haven't ever heard a good thing about David's Bridal seamstresses.

It'll probably be cheaper going to an independent person, too. Look in your phone book for seamstresses and tailors, and ask if they deal with wedding dresses. Ask them for references and then call those brides.

  10. getting the dress there is fine, but have the alterations done elsewhere.  They can be very pricey and slow.  and I have had several clients have fitting issues.

  11. yea

umm i heard bad things bout tht 2

my cousin went there and something went wrong

but the thing tht u gotta do is stay on them weekly. so tht they dont forget bout u and so u just keep reminding them

u want your wedding to be perfect so do wht u have to do to make it tht way

  12. I got my dress from Davids and had the alterations done somewhere else. I heard horrible things about their alterations so I was afraid. While I was trying on my dress there was a girl there complaining that they didn't do anything since the last fitting, and another whole family there complaining about shoddy alterations. So I knew I wasn't having them touch the dress.

My friend in another state also had trouble with DB alterations. Instead of hemming it at the waist they cut off all of the detail at the bottom of her dress. Her bustle also broke during the reception and so did the little ribbon for her wrist so her dress was dragging on the floor all night.

Go to a place that is recommended by people. I found a bridal shop that was willing to do outside alterations. We also bought the MOB & MOG gowns from them too.
