Question:

Help For Mother With Alzheimer's?

My mom has Alzheimer's and it is advancing to the point that she will need care at home (I refuse to put her in a nursing home)? Does anyone have any advice on where I can go to find a reliable companion, live-in, etc. for her without going broke? Most of the agencies I have researched charge a fortune. Any advice will help.

  1. Try talking to the nursing staff at the doctors clinic you can run an ad and probaly find someone retired to sit with her they have relible agencies to do background checks now..check at your church if you have one  there may be some one there..and see if her income will allow her to have a provider for the state depending where you live..good luck

  2. Our city has Alzheimer's Day Care for $200 five day week.  Open from 7-6 serving breakfast and lunch.

Alzheimers is an increasing problem for the working family.

My mother in law is in a Nusing home and is receiving excellent care with our vigilent oversight. The time will come when you won't have a choice.

My heart goes out to you in this struggle.

God bless you with patience and fortitude.

    Love ya,

  3. God Bless You Pam!

Does she have any Insurance that will assist you? Start there first and then check with your local Hospital and call the Alzeehimer's Association for further assistance.  Good luck hope this helps some

  4. Never say never, the time will come when you have to put her in a nursing home..24/7 is too much for any one. Check with your local Senior Center, they sometimes have a list of people that care for the elderly. Also call your local hospital and talk to someone in the Social Service Dept. If you live in a large city there may be an Alzheimer's Day care that can help or @ least give you information on finding someone..When the time comes do not feel guilty about putting her in a nursing home, to maintain your own sanity you have to do it, or you will need someone to care for both of you.

  5. You might consider Day Care Services for the Elderly.

There are several ideas and listings on the Yahoo Search engine.
