if you 100 birds: 75 are solid brown and 25 are brown and white spotted. How do I calculate the frequency of the brown allele (B) and the spotted (b) in the population as well as the frequency of each genotype (BB, Bb, and bb)?

So far I have 0.75 B and 0.25 Bb...right?

  1. BB and Bb both mean that the bird is solid brown because the dominant B is present. bb would mean that the bird is spotted.

  2. You are correct, calculation is number of genotype/total population

its a whole nother question if you want what the frequencies of the progeny are and for that you need to know what the inheritance pattern... be it Mendelian or not
