Question:

Help for PTSD Patient?

I have PTSD and have been dealing with a severe depressive episode for the past 4 days. I tried to talk to my therapist but he does not know about this condition and does not know what I need to do. I am very worried about my condition right now and do not know where to turn. I looked for special clinics or therapist in my area and cannot find anything except for Va hospitals and Vets. Does anyone have any idea what I can do or how to get help?

  1. The answer is simple, but the execution of the necessary steps can take quite an effort. The reward, though, is unbelievably refreshing....

Read Dr. David Burns' "The Feeling Good Handbook". In it, you will find all sorts of resources teaching you how to feel better.

  2. I'm a little concerned that your therapist has never heard of PTSD.... (it might be time to shop for a new one..)

Google PTSD. There are a lot of rescources on the web, and even more people like you out there.  You can always try calling one of the VA rescources, explaining your problem and asking if they know a civillian rescource....some states have a hotline that will take mental health based calls, and refer them to a specialty clinic.

    Don't give up.
