  1. Make sure you are very comfortable with your approach and timing. It's all about trying to get on top of the ball. Also, try not to hit into a blcker put curve on your hit. all I can say is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

  2. Just practice practice practice.  Because as dan ye said, it's all up to how the setter wants you to hit.  if she sets high, there is going to be a reason for that.  Do the left, right left approach if you can, and snap your wrist hard down, which gives the ball a clean topspin.  Just work with your setter, and you should get it down quickly.

  3. Hitting one's is mostly decided by how well the set comes in.

You would normally go with three step approach, but some times you have to go with "one step approach" after a block (or no approach at all). Bending your knees and swinging your arms could definitely help achieve height, after that, the quality of your hit is 99% decided by the setter. You basically wait in the air for the ball, and decide which angle you want to hit (or tip the ball in the last second if you so desired). When you hit, use more of your wrist power instead of that from full swing of your arm. Sometimes I would let my arm reach for the ball and only use my wrist power to hit the ball.

Don't be afraid of hitting the blocker's hands. If you can manage to hit her nails, or force the ball touch the blocker's hand before going out of bound, it would be hard for the opponent to save.

Consistency comes from frequent practice, and mutual understanding between you and your setter. My setter was always able to find me in the air as he could hear me approaching. If not, he would sometimes bend his knees and let the ball go lower just to give me more seconds, or set up 2. By constantly doing this, we were able to draw two blockers to the middle and make it wide open for outside hitter.

For daily practice, you might want to try jump up without any approach. You may or may not want to use weight (depending on your age). Find a professional trainer if you are serious doing your workout.

[Edit] "You basically wait in the air for the ball" means ...

You actually jump and start your "half swing", and your setter simply "hit your palm" with a quick set. You "twist" your wrist in the last second when you see blockers' hands so that you can shoot different angles. You could even flip your wrist and let the ball go **up** (to the ceiling) if those hands were all over the ball ("bully blocker") and force the ball "bounce" off your baseline.

The reason I said "the quality of your hit is 99% decided by the setter" is that it is the setter hit you instead of you looking for the ball in the air. Your room of adjustment is limited compared to the setter's. If you had to look for the ball after the set, it would turn into a 2-ball (or call it one-and-half) instead of 1-ball.

  4. 1s.. you have to get up high dont broad jump and open your hitting arm getting them up so your setter can set the ball to your hand instead of just setting the ball in front of you. Timing is important with your setter because 1s can only be executed if you timing is right. No big arm swings because i assume you are at a high school level, so speed is more important. High elbows and snap. Dont do a 4 apprach and seriously no big arm swings (for high school level) Always come for the hit even if the set doesnt come to you. As a Middle you have to create distraction so you have to come for the 1 everytime so the other teams MB keys on you .

  5. consistancy comes with practice...everything comes with practice

  6. Consistancy, keep the ball in front instead of getting under, practice on timing.mini-trampolin with bunji's.you'll see them in gyms with good volleyball and basketball teams. You might try sand in the offseason, its easier on the knees.Plus if you can get in pick up games on the sand.go for it,just watch out for jerks who pay no attention to going under the net when you are going up,you dont need that kind of career ending injury on a pick up game.
