Help!!! freshman volleyball tryouts?

My mom really wants me to do volleyball this year (I'll be a freshman). I'm going to a new school and I won't really know anyone so she thinks it will be a good way to make friends before school starts. I think thats a good idea too but I HATE volleyball! I did it last year because my parents forced me to and I didn't like it. But they think i love it and I'm great at it (which I am NOT) I told my mom this but of course she doesn't care. :(

I REALLY don't want to try out but I don't think I can avoid it :(

I've been working on my overhand serve but I suck :( I can only make it over if I serve underhand. :(

I also can't spike and I hate being in the front row in a game.

What do you have to be able to do to make a freshman volleyball team??

And do you have to be good at running to make the team?

  1. what you could do to still be on the team but without playing is to ask the coach if you could be the watergirl, so teachnicly your still on the team but not playing

  2. If you don't enjoy it, don't do it. The coached will see that you don't like, and won't put you on the team. Try out for something better, sometime you like.

Also, running is a big part, you have to be able to shuffle around the court and get to balls fast.

For freshman/JV team you should be about to do this:

    - Controlled bump and set

    - Know the bump, set, hit technique

    - Serve (over hand is best, but under hand will do)

    - Have a pretty good hit and block.

  3. You shouldn't do anything to you don't want to do.  Try to talk to your mom again and make her understand that there are different ways to fit in than to be on the volleyball team.

But if that doesn't work here are some tips:

You'll have to be able to know the basics: bump set spike serve

You'll have to endure the conditioning:running, scissors, suicides.....

You'll have to have a good attitude(don't let the coaches find out that you don't want to be on the team)

Have an open mind: listen to what the coaches have to say

Ask questions: If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask because for a fact that many people there won't understand as well

Socialize:  I guess that's the point that your mother wants you to go and try out.  Communicate with others because coaches also pay attention to that.  If you don't socialize, they'll assume that your not a good teammate and that's VERY important in volleyball

Any other questions and i'll be happy to help.  Good Luck!

  4. i have no idea what to do with this sitaution...i would talk to my parnets more about it...maybe you can play some other sport that u enjoy playin
