i have a 93 escort lx 1.9ltr. if my car idles up and down and i checked my spark plugs and the wired and they are good. what else would make it do that. sputter thing or idle low. i changed my fuel pressure regulator to and it still does it checked my air filter still does ti. reran my emmisions. nothing is wrong. but something is. could it be a holein the muffler?

  1. also replace the distributor cap and rotor it's part of maintance anyway.

    if the problem is still there.

    1. engine on, wheels straight, ac off

    2. loosen the distributor and move it slowly, find the ideal idle.

    "you actually need a timing light for this"


  2. Could be your throttle cable came loose it usually has a s***w u can tighten or loosen to adjust .Sisters 4 cylinder nissan had same problem. hers was by the manifold. Looks like a brake cable for a bycicle. if u pull it it will rev the car up. Easiest way of knowing if its the right one.

  3. change the idle speed control sensor.its the round tube looking thing on the top of the throttle body.its a very easy repair.open the hood of the car and look right on the top of the throttle body where the air tube comes from the air filter.unplug the sensor and replace with new one and your problem should be solved.the part cost is around 35-70.00 depending on where you buy it from.
