ok, so i am getting a horse named Maggie. she is a quarter horse and sounds like a very descent horse to me. here is her adoption paragraph from petfinder.com:

Maggie is a 5 year old 14H Registered Quarter Horse. She came to us on owner surrender. She is broke to ride and very responsive. She has ground manners, leads, clips, and loads. This horse needs a confident handler as she feeds off of your mood. We are using Natural Horsemanship methods to train her and she is responding VERY well. She is healthy, sound, and barefoot. Her adoption fee is $600.

what do you think about Maggie?

heres a pic just in case: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11147287

  1. I think she looks like a sweet mare. And if she is very responsive, then shes even better! Hope you have fun with her! =] Horses are a lot of work, but a pleasure to have!

  2. Well, first of all I'd like to say congratulations on adopting a horse.  That is great that you are giving her a good home.  I am a Quarter horse owner and I can honestly say that they are AMAZING horses.  They are actually known as the Golden Retriever horse.  This is because they have a wonderful disposition, are great with people of all ages, and are very affectionate.  She looks well fed, her coat is shiny, and she seems to be sociable.  You are doing a great job with her. Bravo!  Whether she is barefoot or not, always make sure to trim her feet every eight weeks.  Also, if you do keep her barefoot, make sure not to ride her on any rocky surfaces like concrete, black top, or gravel.  Be considerate to her sensitive "toes!" LOL.  Basically, from what I've observed you got yourself a really nice horse.  Especially for that price!!!  Maybe I'll look on petfinder for my new horse. Good luck!

  3. She sounds great! You will need to be very confident though. If you get nervous she will too and let out a buck maybe. I think she will be a good project if your ready fort this! I just got a horse too!! :) Congrats!

  4. She's a pretty horse.  They don't say she is sound....you need to have a vet exam done to be sure she is sound and healthy.

When they say they are using natural horsemanship to work with her, that means you will have to study it in order to handle her consistently...are you prepared to pay a NH trainer to assist you with that?  The fact that she is available for low cost is just initial investment...the real cost of owning her comes after you make the purchase.

  5. Shes cute.

But if your serious about her ...

    GET A VET CHECK

Get them to show you the horse going on and off and traveling in a trailer/float.

Go out when the farrier is there.

Make sure it is is all sound.

There is nothing worse than getting a horse that isn't sound etc.

And ride it maybe take it on trial.

Just make sure it is all fine.

  6. she's cute :)

  7. She looks and sounds lovely.

I think you should go for it and have fun :D

  8. Sounds ok...but the most important part would be to go and meet her and make sure you are compatible with her.

Words and descriptions are all made to attract people...she looks nice but the pictures don't really show her that close up. To judge anything other than her nice and shiny coat and her nice looks.  Although she does "appear" to be larger than 14hh.

If she sparked your interest, and your in the market for a horse and she meets your requirements, then go for it!!

    Good Luck!!
