Okay, so I recently turned vegetarian and I've been having serious meat cravings. I'm not going back to eating meat so I really want to know how I can beat these cravings.

Thanks.

  1. Whole Foods has a whole sections of chilled and frozen soy meat.  Hot dogs, sorizo, etc.

Make sure you eat ORGANIC soy as most of the soy crop in North America is genetically modified.  yikes!

I personally am a protien type and am scared of all the phytoestrogens in soy.

  2. try not to think about it get a hobby to get your mind of it

  3. Try not to think about them and do a hobby to get your mind off of them.

  4. Meat - organic meat - is not a bad thing.

There are certain nutrients that you cannot get from any other source, other than meat - and the same with veggies.

Buying organic bison, and lamb - not hamburger meat - has health benefits. Don't cut meat out totally. You can get your protein from other sources, but meat has the complete protein and enzymes.

I used to be a vegetarian, but now include some meat in my diet.

Meat once or twice a week is not bad. In fact, it's good. I would avoid pork of all kinds, and chicken from restaurants.

  5. you can eat soy meats... some of them taste pretty much the same. i suggest morning star farms brand

  6. I'm a vegetarian myself and when I have those meat cravings I go and excersice..a good jog..then you come in and have a nice ice cream or carrots or something..it really calmes me down.

  7. Morning Star has some very good tasting veggie chicken nuggets - I bought them by mistake once and didn't even notice the difference between them and real meat! I'm sure their other veggie foods are good, as well. That would be the simplest way to break the cravings, because you're basically giving yourself what you want - just not exactly.

Or, you could just tough it out. Eat something else - perhaps a salad? I love salads, they're my special treat to myself every time I reach a goal. Just keep on trying different foods, there are a lot of different vegetarian options - in time your cravings will be gone.

  8. Boca burger with lettuce, tomato and onion

  9. I've been a vegetarian for two years, and I had the same problem. Not so much for beef or steak, because I've never liked those much anyway, but definitely chicken. I would sneak little bites of chicken from the fridge when nobody was looking, then feel guilty.

The point is, you are in transition right now, and these cravings are normal. If you need to eat a small bite to help fight really tough cravings, and not go "cold turkey" (no pun intended), it might be easier. Hopefully, after that, you will become a better vegetarian, and not need to eat meat, because the cravings have greatly subsided.

Eventually, you will lose your taste for meat altogether. When I started being vegetarian, I read that meat would not taste the same after a while. I didn't believe it. Since then, I've tried small pieces of pork, chicken, and beef. I never realized how oily pork tasted, or how weird beef tasted, or how chicken has a weird texture. It turns out, they were right, and your tastebuds do change.

The cravings will slowly disappear. Good luck! :-)

  10. Not to be simplistic, but, I will just take time. The cravings will just get less and less. even after a few years you will still once in a while see someone eating a thick juicy steak and you will be pinning for just a taste. Honestly, It also might be your body indicating a need for a particular vitamin/mineral. It is possible for a "vegan" to get all the proper nutrition they need but it is really not all that common. Be sure and talk to your doctor or a qualified nutritionist. Being "vegan" is hard work. I have vegan friends that are healthy(looking) and some that really seem sickly(looking)

Your body is an incredible machine and if you are attuned to it and try your best to "listen" you should be just fine. Good luck!
