Help me solve this word problem?

alexa, who is paid time and a half for hours worked in excess of 40 hours, had gross weekly wages of $229 for 44 hours worked. what is her regularly hourly rate?

time and a half =1.5(x); let x be regularly hourly rate

hours worked =  40; overtime hrs =4;

basic equation = (1.5(x))*4 + x(40)=229;

                          46x=229;

                          x=4.98~$5/hr.

229=40x+4y

y=1.5x

solve that system of equations for x and y.... x represents her hourly wage, y is her overtime pay. so if you substitute 1.5x for y in the first eq'n, you have 229=40x+4(1.5x)... add em all up and isolate your x on one side and you're done. this way i've shown you the work so you'll know how to do it next time instead of just giving you the answer...
