Help me with Thesis Statement...!?

I was reading the Abu Ghraid Prison Scandal. Basically, it was about “ the physical abuse and humiliation committed by American military guards against Iragi detainees at Abu Ghraid prison”. You can check it out at http://www.salon.com/news/abu_ghraib/2006/03/14/introduction/

I was trying to write a thesis statement for my essay based on this article. I had written a few statements but it sounded awkward. Can anyone help me make a powerful statement for this article? Don’t copy the one I wrote above….

When a nation does not have morals or principles it becomes criminal and an outlaw itself the moment it becomes tested.

Abu Ghraib and other American institutions of rape, torture and violation show America to be a hypcorite in the area of law and the world's biggest perpetrator of war crimes from 1954 (illegal coup in Iran) to today's illegal incarceration of untried men and so forth.
