Help my Hermit Crab!!?

I was looking through a question on here about a hermit crab and I think I killed my hermit crab!!!! My one hermit crab was under the sand for about a week or so and then it kinda feel out of its shell but I think that was its molted skin (dull almost pinkish or light tan) then inside there was another set of claws (bright-ish red with a white dot on the tip) and it was laying in the middle of the cage for a few days so I thought it was dead. So I put it in a plastic bag and tried to touch its inside (bright-ish red) set of claws with my finger and didn't see it move but that could of been because it was in the bag. But then I buried it.

I feel horrible, was it still alive!? Also it didnt smell a bit.

And also, I have one hermit crab and the other hermit crab that possibly died was like its best friend they were always next to eachother. could the other hermit crab be depressed because he usually sleeps in its hut now he sleeps outside in a hole in the sand.

How do I make his life less sad and make him happier? Please Help, I dont know what to do!

Please no mean answers Im serious, It was my mistake and thanks for all the answers.

  1. Yes it was probably still alive - they take awhile to start moving around again after they molt, then they eat that exoskeleton (that tan stuff that fell out)..  If it did not smell, it was not dead.

I would make sure you have the basics: fresh and salt water, substrate deep enough to bury in to, humidity and heat of 70-80 percent and degrees, fresh fruits and veggies as well as cereal that is not loaded with sugar. They are a social animal so maybe buy another one, make sure there are shells to choose from if they want.. They also like to climb.
