Help my computer crashed

Question

I bought a lap top and evryone said I was stupid from buying from the place I did. I shut the lid on the lap top when I went back the next day it said software somethig was gone please insert installation disk and repir it. Well it came with windows vista Im trying to install windows xp and the product key wont work it says the cd code you entered is not valid. Help how do I fix this.
