call me stupid i dont care. But can someone help me?

what does this ; mean? i know its called a colon--im not sure if the spellings right--but thats how u say it almost. All i need to know is what does it mean and how do you use it. can anyone help me please? thanks. [=

  1. ; is a semicolon. : is a colon.

    They're punctuation marks, they don't have meanings.

    You use a semicolon when you're connecting two independent clauses. An independent clause is basically a complete sentence.

    Above poster should be using a COLON and not a semicolon. Colons are for lists.

    like in the sentence:

    the ingredients are ; tomatoes,mayonaise etc......

    it is like to present many words in a line
