ok so i tryin to decide wat speakers i should get and its driving me crazy. i've listened to the Mirage Nanosat Prestige, Definitive Technology ProCinema 60 at BB but each had its downsides i thought the Mirage sounded a bit hollow (we were listening to music), the OMNIPOLAR 360° sorda gave me a sense that i was there but it sorda felt like the sound was out of control (idk how to explain it), the Definitive Tech it didnt give me the same sense that i was there but it sounded great except for one thing... it crackled A LOT. how are the Klipschs and Orbs? any recommendations? The speakers will be used for music and movies. by the way i have a room 20' x 14' with a large opening to the kitchen on the left. thnx!

  1. Hi there...

A large dilemma that's ironically fun to decide...

First of all...NEVER LISTEN TO THE SALESMEN...JUST LISTEN TO THE SPEAKERS!..Follow this and everything else falls into place...Take some personal CDs with you and listen carefully to each possible selection...Hearing your favorite songs on different models will help you decide...

Mirages are great, but the high end seems hyped to me...I'd be wary of omni drivers as they always sound good in the listening room, but since my home (and many others) are not designed as a listening space, I fear the reflections would be horrendous...

Definitives crackle?..I bet it was part of the system and not the speakers...Definitive Technologies are good speakers, but never did anything for me...

Klipsch's are nice, too...They have horns on the tweeters that sound smooth...Their floorstanding models have a pretty smooth sound overall...

Also check out B&W...They have an extensive line offering everything from bookshelf's to high end esoteric models...These are nicer than the names you mentioned...

Don't be afraid to also try listening to some recording studio grade speakers...The local music store (Guitar Center or Sam Ash) usually has a good selection and may even be better quality than what you find at Best Buy...

I have a set of Focal's and a set of ProAc's...I'd not part with either one..After what seems like the same battle you're fighting, I decided to go with 5 identical speakers for the system...This creates a uniform sound for movies and surround music...Also gives me floorspace back form the large Electrostats I used to have...They sound great...

    Happy Listening...CP

  2. well i have heard klipsch speakers and i gotta say they are really great. you will pay alot for them but i think they are totally worth it. there are also other options for good speakers. look at audioadvisor.com. thats how i found mine. they have pretty much the best speakers there as they are an audiophile magazine. they will have brands you will never have heard of because they are the best of the best. although they certainly dont have bargains there. a $400 speaker is considered budget there
