I got Diabetes when I was only 11. I'm 17 now. The thing is, I always forget to either take my shots or measure my sugar. What is something I can do to help me remember?

  1. Get a watch to set alarms on.  or get an insulin pump.  Maybe you could get a continuous glucose monitoring system that u wear so when ur sugars get high or low it will wanr you.  That way if u forget, the monitor will remind you.

  2. Do you have a cell phone?  Most have alarms you can set throughout the day.  If you dont get a watch with an alarm and use that to remind you.

  3. Well, it stinks that you can't feel it. I'm diabetic as well. I'm 14 years old, and have had since i was 4. So it's all i know, so i can imagine it's harder for you to adjust.

One thing that i found to help was to to have someone inform you, or read up on, the dangers of not controlling your sugar. I know reading this won't be as effective, so I'd suggest you ask your parents or your doctor. This, in a way, kind of scared me into keeping my sugars at a better level.

Additionaly, routines are also very helpful when trying to remember something. Try this out: Check 10-15 (at the least) before any major meal, and give yourself insulin appropriately for not only a high blood sugar, but also the food you plan on eating. This will give you much better control, but you probably already knew that.

Personaly, I'm on an insulin pump. It's so much easier that shots aren't so much of a pain (in more than one way :p). Talk to your parents about it. It really does make a HUGE difference. You can also get one that communicates with your blood glucose meter - this is even more helpful!

Best of luck with dealing with your sugars, I hope this helped. Feel free to email me if you need any further help, I'd be more than happy to talk!
