For my geography class I have to do a country quilt. I chose Ireland. I don't want a ton of help, just some cool facts. We have to find stuff over religion, history, food, fclothing, economy, goverment, housing, and misc. Does anyone know anything interesting I could use for misc? Or just some cool facts that would help me with my project? Thanks =]

  1. Here is just some random facts that I had earlier! lol

    Population: 3.5 million

    Capital: Dublin

    Smallest county: Louth

    Largest county: Cork

    There are 32 counties in Ireland.

    1% of the population are travelors.

    Only 1100 people in Ireland speak Irish in the home.

    Here are some websites that might help you;

  3. yup guiness originated in ireland. im afraid i cant tink of any cool facts sorry!

  4. Some other cool facts that i learned while i was there, this is the first time the population has been more  4 million since the depression.  There are more Sheep in the Country than people. The regular police there do not carry firearms.

  5. ok common error is to think the flag comes from catholic and protestant united by white.  It is the green of the south (not necessarily catholic) and the orange of the north (orange from william of orange - admittedly protestant) united by the white of peace.

    Guinness is a stout and our national drink.  It most definitely comes from here from Dublin in fact.

    the famine started in 1845 and resulted in one million dying and about two million emigrating to the States.  The population was 8 million at that time and kept going down.  It has now started increasing again and we are over 4 million at the last count.

    We were originally call the Island of Saints and Scholars because most people travelling from here in early history were monks and learned men who tried to spread christianity and learning abroad.  (a bit different now!!).

    Most people in Ireland own their own house (with a mortgage). This is quite different to the mainland of europe where many people rent accommodation.

    A large part of our economy depends on agriculture.

    Ireland is divided into 32 counties. 26 of these form the republic of Ireland and the other six form Northern Ireland currently governed by the United Kingdom (Down Derry Armagh Antrim Fermanagh and Tyrone).
