  1. The high rise building with under ground car parks require this type of piling, the bentonite is a cementatous material to fill gaps and cavities to prevent soil collaps, same material used in oil and gas drilling operation,

Yes type of soil dectates the piling system and if bentonite is required or not

  2. Flush Bored Piles are a type of Replacement Pile. They are often called bored piles because the removal of the soil to make the hole for the pile is often carried away using a 'boring' technique.

What sort of building are Flush Bored Piles mainly used for?

Flush Bored Piles are mainly used on LARGE projects, as they require lots of machinery to put them in place. Such as a jib crane, bentonite storage tank etc

What is the bentonite used for?

Bentonite is a controlled mixture of fullers earth and water which produces a slurry or mud which has thixotropic properties. When placed in the borehole it exerts a pressure in excess of earth + hydrostatic pressure.

When you bore into unstable ground, such as gravel the ground requires temporary support from casing or bentonite [or both].

Does it matter what the soil type is?

Yes, bored piles are primarily used in cohesive subsoils [such as stiff clay] and are particularly amenable to the formation of piles in this way, since the bore hole walls do not require temporary support except cloth to the ground surface.

This was a great question by the way. I had to run upstairs to get some of my notes ;)
