Help with Time Zones

Question

ok so there is this thing and people say that it is at 2 pm EST and 6pm GST. what is GST and I live in california so what time will it be here at 2 pm EST? its really confusing to me. thanks so much for your help. and if you don't quite understand the question, you can email me but PLEASE help!

Long ago in a country not too far away, the Royal Astronomer in Greenwich England was the astronomer to the King. At the time Great Britain was the greatest power in the world (remember at one time they said "the sun never sets on Great Britain because they had most of the world under the british flag). When they started making maps, they needed a starting point, so they pick the Observatory in Greenwich as the zero point of longitude, and all distances were measured east or west from that point. Since England ruled the world, english time was accepted, so this is where we get Greenwich Mean Time. The average time since time is relative as to how you measure it. Since there are 24 hours in a complete day, 360 degrees in a complete circle (earth) every 15 degrees was an hours difference. So Eastern standard time is 75 degrees west of Greenwich, england so we are (those who live in EST) 5 hours behind GMT. So 1 pm is 6 pm GMT. HOWEVER - since modern timekeeping has come into play, they no longer use GMT. Since science is more precise with the time keeping they use Universal Coordinated time, cause the time is constantly updated by the measuring of the Cesium Atom molecules.

So if you are in the USA, there are 4 time zones, minus 5 hours on the eastern coast, minus 8 hours on the western. Daylight savings time you are 4 and seven.

First of all instead of GST is GMT. GMT stands for universal time or greenwich meridian time or time zero.EST=eastern stand time=GMT-4 hours. california is part of the PT=pacific time=EST-3=GMT-7. That mean at 6pm GMT=2pm EST=11AM PT or 11am in california.
