Windows will not allow me to log in...

When I turn my computer on a screen appears which allows me to select the windows profile I would like to open. I only have one profile so I select it, then under the name it says "Loading profile" then it changes to"Saving Settings" then it changes to "Logging Off" and proceeds to log off. I have tried restarting my computer but do not know what else to do, I can't get passed the log in page without it logging me off. I have had this computer for two years and this just started happening... Please help! Thanks.

  1. try loging in as administrator every computer has an administrator account

on the login screen press ctrl alt delete twice it should bring you to administrator login this should be the login in if you havent changed it

    name administrator

    password admin

  2. if you just installed any new updates uninstall them. there are issues with a few on certain machines.  Safe mode should get you in if the updates are the problem......

  3. Try logging on in safe mode.  While the system boots up, go into the options to select the safe mode.  From there, diagnose the computer to see if something is forcing the logout.  May want to start with a virus scan, a check for startup programs (maybe a script is forcing the logout), or malware (did you recently install anything?).

  4. i had a Compaq that did that.

if you have the factory restore disc use it.

hold f10 down and turn your computer on  to start a reformat.if you don't have one.

    some files,folders,programs will be lost.

    you can recover them by;

    click start

    click run

    enter file,folder,etc.(such as my documents)

    click ok

  5. new computer time.... unless you have some business around that can reprogram it.

  6. It sounds like your computer was in the middle of an automatic update and it was shutdown improperly (ie, you used the power button to turn it off, rather than shutting down from the menu) and the log out script is now stuck in an infinite loop. I would certainly suggest booting into safe mode (press F4 just after the bios screen and select safe mode from the list)

if you get in, try and do a system restore.

Go to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

and roll back to a date from before the problems started. This will roll back all your update, and file system changes, hopefully correcting the problem.

If it does not, or you cant get logged into Safe Mode, then it may be time to repair XP using your Windows XP disk. This will put all System files back to the way they were when you first installed XP, without any updates or anything else. Your program files will remain unharmed.

Failing that, you may need to pay your local computer geek to troubleshoot it further.

Good luck, and I hope this helps.
