  1. You can't cause it's a SLR camera.  You have to look through the viewfinder.  And what you see through the viewfinder is the exact picture you take.

  2. You can't because the nikon d40x doesn't have live view so you have to loo threw the viewfinder.

At first i thought it be very annyoying using only the viewfinder but it really isn't that bad after you get used to it

  3. If you want to compose your photo with the LCD screen, stick with a point and shoot. A Nikon d40x is a level up--and you look through the viewfinder--the optical viewfinder, that is, to compose your shot, right through the lens.

That is the proper way to hold a camera. Right hand hold the body and with the index finger, press the shutter release button. Left hand, you would use it to cradle it. You may use your left thumb and middle finger to fine tune the focusing and adjusting the zoom ring.

If it is held a foot away, your hands will shake, and often people wonder why their photos are blurry.

  4. girlslikemelovepinks is right. the image goes through the lens hits a mirror and prism to the viewfinder. When you take a picture the mirroro is raised and light gets to the sensor. Some DSLR have liveview where mirror can be locked up so you can see on the LCD but its really not a great feature even then. The mirror has to come back down when your press the button halfway to allow the camera to autofocus and holding the heavier DSLR out by hand without camera shake is a feat few can master ( and fewer want to) Live view on a DSLR is really only useful in rare tripod situations ( e.g. hooked up to a telescope )

  5. unfortunelty nikon only has this feature in their point and shoot cameras like coolpix and in their more expensive models like the D300,D3 and D700. It's a great feature. I am a nikon guy, always have been and it's not until I purchased D300 that I have been truly satisfied with that feature. If you do not like that it does'nt have this you may want to go with a sony a350 which probably will cost you $200-300 more or just save up for a D300. hope this helps
