Can any maths geniuses help? I'm helpless with numbers - if I had a job which was 28 hours a week and paid £20,000 a year pro rata, what would I earn a month?

  1. £20,000 is the annual rate.  To get the pro rata rate you need to work out what percentage of time you are working.  So if the job was 40 hours per week full time and you are working 28 hours then that equals 7/10ths of a week, or 70%.

Therefore 70% of £20,000 is £14,000 pa gross.  Monthly pay would then be £14,000 divided by 12, ie. £1,166.66.

Of course if the usuall weekly hours are different, you will need to recalculate.

  2. 40 hours per week = £20k.

    So, 2 hours per week = £1k

    Therefore 28 hours per week = £14k

Divide that by 12 to find out how much per month.

Are you sure you are fit for the job if you can't work that out?

  3. approximately £14000pa, based on a full time working week of 40 hours

    20000/40 = 500

    500 x 28 = 14000

    14000/12 = £1166.66 per month (roughly)

  4. About £1261.00 gross
