i didn't get to join the volleyball team this year because i came to this school late. (freshman in HS) so i never got to master a overhand serve and i /need/ to know how to overhand serve by next season next year.

i'm pretty confident i'm doing the right things (keeping my arms straight etc.) but it always hits the net?

anyways, any tips on thatt?

  1. I know how you feel

It took me a year to master my over hand serve

but now i'm in the 7th grade and i'm a pro... lolz

All you need to know are these basic steps:

Left foot in front of your right foot slightly/ left hand holding the ball/ right hand in the air waiting to serve/ toss the ball directly in front of your right hand / hit the ball forward, aiming for a high spot on the wall on the other side of the court, while arching your back and stepping with your left foot forward at the same time/ when you hit the ball make sure that you're using a HARD open hand!!!

    :)))))

I hope it all works out for you!

  2. If it keeps going into the net try hitting the ball higher, work on strengthening your arm and swing with your whole body including your back.

  3. ok i am a great volleyball player, now how tall are you, maybe you are not tall and strong enough. well anyway didn't your middle school coach teach you that i have been overhand sserving scince fifth grade. you don't really need to have your arms straight.

  4. I'm a volleyball coach, and here are a few things I always tell my team:

    - draw your hitting arm back like you are holding a bow and arrow

    - keep your toss low; just foot off your head in front of you

    - shift your weight and move into the ball

here's a link for more info on how to perfect your serve:

Also...it would be okay to approach your vball coach and ask for help.  That would really show him or her that you are focused on learning, and they could help you.

  5. You're probably late on hitting the ball when you serve. Make sure that you keep your serving arm straight (like you've been doing) but also put enough power into the ball so that it will go over. If your timing is wrong your serve will hit the net. Don't lose hope - I'm sure your school has off-season where you can join and condition with the team. You'll then get some court time to practice before next year's tryouts. Also, don't be afraid to approach the coach for some advice. If you want to go even further, there are private volleyball clubs that you can join to get better, but these usually cost money. Hope this helps!

  6. Quote:  "if the ball keeps hitting the net that means u need to throw the ball up higher!!!" - WRONG!! Don't toss the ball more than two or three feet in the air

  7. use your palm and hit up

  8. Sometimes, serving comes naturally to people. Othertimes it dosen't. I wouldn't really worry about that part of it.

Don't focus on how hard you're hitting it now. Focus on simply getting it over. Don't do things TOO robotic, just toss the ball and do whatever is natural. That's not to say don't follow basic intrusctions, that's just saying make your serve your own.

Also, have faith in yourself! If you think "ooo I HOPE this goes over!" the ball most likely will not. If you think, "Ok. This IS going over" the ball most likely will, ya know?

    I hope I helped

  9. if the ball keeps hitting the net that means u need to throw the ball up higher!!! ur probably hitting the ball to low, make sure to hit it before it reaches head level.
