  2. Ok. I won't just give you the answer. You know, teach to fish and all that.

    First, to simply it, take out common factors. It will leave it like this =

    (x^5)(x+1)(x^4)(x^2+x-1)

    Then multiply similar factors. (x^5)(x^4) =

    Now you have these =

    (x^9)(x+1)(x^2+x-1)

    Although those steps aren't necessary (you can go ahead and multiply from step 1), I like to explain it to my classmates that way, they seem to get a better hold of the concept.

    Now multiply the last two. You will have these =

    (x^9)(x+1)(x^2+x-1) ;

    (x^9)(x(x^2+x-1)+(x^2+x-1)) ;now distribute and get rid of parenthesis

    (x^9)(x^3+x^2-x+x^2+x-1) ; now simplify, combine similar factors

    (x^9)(x^3+2x^2-1) ; now distribute the first factor

    x^12+2x^11-x^9

    That's your answer.
