The Bayern Munich manager is aiming for all three points when his side faces FC Basel in the knock-out stages of the UEFA Champions League.
The Bavarian giants are set to face FC Basel on Wednesday, February 22. The first-leg of the knock-out stage of the Champions League will be played at the St. Jakob Park in Basel. Jupp Heynckes’ won their Group A whereas FC Basel
finished runners-up behind Benfica in Group C.
Heynckes claimed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 will not be an easy opponent especially when playing at home. He warned his side against complacency and stated that the Swiss giants cannot be underestimated at any cost.
The tactician insisted that Basel have got the better of the likes of Manchester United in the group stage so they are well capable of beating any team in the Champions League. He added that Bayern should continue to perform the
way they did in the group stages and admitted that it will not be an easy task.
“There's one thing no one should do, which is to underestimate FC Bayern, even in the wake of Saturday's match. We've come to Basel feeling very optimistic. We need to repeat our performances from the successful group stage matches.
It won't be easy. Basel aren't in the last sixteen by accident,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Bayern Munich’s official website.
On the other hand, club chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, insisted that Bayern cannot afford to be arrogant as it is a crucial game which will determine their chances in Europe.
He insisted that the team should work hard and play the way they have been playing in the past few weeks. He is confident that his side will be successful in the clash.
“That should be warning enough. We mustn't be arrogant, we have to concentrate hard but I'm certain we won't underestimate Basel. Our team won't make that mistake,” Rummenigge added.
Bayern Munich will be looking to get a result out of the match to make things easier for the second-leg. Also, the Munich giants have some tough fixtures coming in the Bundesliga so a victory in Basel would definitely be helpful.
