i just bought a sony 1080p and a yamaha home theatre system.

i tried using my ps3 by hooking it up to the receiver via hdmi and from my receiver to the tv via hdmi. but for some reason i dont get any sound coming from my receiver. i did a test on all 5 speakers and they all work. can the hdmi cables be the problem? i hooked up my ps3 directly to the tv and the image and sound work. i also hooked up my xbox 360 to the tv works fine too. what can be wrong?

  1. Hi,

I have a PS3 connected to the Yamaha reciever, which is also in turn connected to a Sony BRAVIA Full HD TV.

To assist you further could you please give me the model number of your yamaha home theatre system?

What you could have to do is change the Audio output settings on the PS3. I think it is under the System > Audio settings. Try changing all the format options until the sound works, because this could be the case.

    Hope it helps !

  2. well you can try using an optical cable via your PS3 to your receiver this will give better sound quality and you have a dedicated sound cable.

so once you purchase the optical cable (no need to buy the $100 ones the cheaper $20 or even $10 will work perfectly) go to sound setting on your PS3 and change it to the optical cable and then follow the rest of the way through the setting via automatic setting then your finished! =]

don't forget to change the source of your sound via the yamaha receiver when playing your PS3....

  3. Your receiver doesn' t support audio via HDMI. You should connect HDMI from PS3 to TV and optical cable from PS3 to receiver to get surround sound.
