Why can't humans hibernate in the same way animals can?

  1. because we dont need to as we can adapt to different tempretures


  2. Human physiology and metabolism would not allow long inactive periods.  Simply put, Homo sapiens has not evolved a mechanism for hibernation.  I am sure you have seen examples of what is needed to keep a person living once they are comatose.  It is just not feasible.

  4. We aren't designed for it, and we have no use for it.

For the same reason we can't fly like birds.  We haven't evolved that capability.  It is also likely that we evolved a brain to cope with cold winters so we didn't need to hibernate.  If we had a smaller brain perhaps we would have evolved the ability to hibernate.  Which would you rather have, speech or the ability to hibernate.
