  1. Do you like a heavy smoke smell in your house?

Take it outside.  Fire up the BBQ, put some hickory chips on the coals, and put the ham on the grill.  this way, you won't have to air your house out for 2 months.

  2. NO!  There is no exhaust in the oven.  You will cause smoke to enter your home, and probably sustain smoke damage.  Only smoke outside!

  3. I'd tent it with foil and only use a few chips.  I've smoked cooked chicken with tea leaves on the burner, but that was covered in a large stock pot.

Turn your vent fan on high... it will get stinky.

    Edit...

Now I'm wondering if the oven would get hot enough start the chips smoking.  When I used the stove to, the heating elements right next to the chips.  I'd probably lean towards smoking on the stove top with a tight fitting lid.
