Do you think high gas prices could cause major trouble in the US? Here's my opinion:

In the past, when gas was like 30 cents a gallon your salary wasn't that much either. Not just gas, but bread, and milk, cars, and houses. Over the years, these items got more expensive and your salary grew more too. The US dollar isn't worth much so your dollar doesn't go as far as it did 50 years ago. Somewhere in the not so distant past, salaries became stable while prices continued rising. People predict gas will cost $15 in the next decade! People won't be able to afford it because income won't be enough. Not just people but businesses. A lot of businsesses will go out of business, expecially transportation companies. Not only will gas be the issue. When gas prices rise ALL prices rise. Food will become more expenisve too. I think this country is screwed. Let's go to Canada! JK

  1. we may be "screwed" for a while, but for most of us, $4 a gallon gas is not a very big part of our income, so on an individual basis, it is not a huge deal.  But when we consider that everything we buy has to be transported around the country, and as gas prices go up, the cost of everything else has to go up to help pay for the transportation gas cost.

However, this is the US and we have a great creative and inventive streak.  What a great opportunity to find energy alternatives.  Truly, high gas prices is the BEST motivator for us to develop alternate energy sources.

  2. we have to start making cars not dependent on gasoline. scientists are working their asses off on making a car that runs on compressed air.

  3. Gas prices in Europe are twice as much in the U.S and if gas prices become to expensive for Americans than they will start using cars that run on alt fuels.

  4. i agree completely but if your concerned about gas itself than (if you have a diesel car) convert to biodiesel.
