Hispania Racing Team up for Sale
Hispania Racing Team (HRT) became a part of the Formula 1 grid this year when they along with 2 other teams by the name of Lotus Racing and Virgin Racing Team. The three new teams struggled to perform this year quite obviously and at first, it seemed that
2 of these new teams might be forced to leave the sport due to financial problems or limited sponsorship.
Later on, thanks to Bernie Ecclestone, the FIA announced that all three of the teams will be given another chance to prove themselves in 2011 and according to the FIA’s official driver’s list; all three teams are going to race in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
However, it seems that HRT has finally given up financially despite investments from former Telefonica boss Juan Villalonga according to the Media. The team is now up for sale and it is obviously, quite embarrassing and disappointing for the team.
HRT has not announced their official drivers’ line-up yet and it seems that they won’t announce it anytime soon either. Villalonga’s deal with the team helped them negotiate with even more sponsors and companies but it seems that all those dealings proved
to be useless for the team financially.
“Jose Ramon Carabante and his equity partners have put up the team for sale,” according to a report.
The team is currently left with nothing as they have “no car, no base, no drivers, no sponsors - only a Cosworth engine.” HRT parted company with their partners Toyota Motorsport and they are now suffering vitally.
Colin Kolles stated that he does not want to rush in to any decision and therefore, he is going to take his time and hope for the best. It would be interesting to see who buys the team. It would not be a surprise to see Jacques Villeneuve negotiating with
the team about a potential deal.
“It is evident that if Carabante finds a buyer he will dispose of the team. We are not necessarily in a hurry, the deadline is three days before the first race. The 2011 car? We will have one. And we are in the process of manufacturing it,” Kolles told the
Media.
