    New England (or Northern) Colonies:

    - Province of New Hampshire (later new Hampshire) : Union

    - Province of Massachussets Bay (Later Massachussets and Maine) : Union

    - Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (Later Rhode Island) : Union

    - Connecticut Colony (Later connecticut) : Union

    Middle Colonies:

    - Province of New York (Later New York and Vermont): Union

    - Province of New Jersey (New Jersey) : Union

    - Province of Pennsyllvania (Later Pennsylvania): Union

    - Delaware Colony (Delaware) : Union (but a border state)

    Southern Colonies (depending on the period Virgina and Maryland could be defined Chesapeake colonies)

    - Provnce of Maryland (Later Maryland) : Union (but was a border state)
