  1. is it a whack or like a smack,

cuz i get wacked all the time.

    i really dont care.

i see nothing wrong with it

  2. if its a thump for them doing something wrong then no. if they do it for entertainment its abuse. CPS!

  3. A child should never be BEATEN. Physical punishment like a smack on the butt is fine but anything past that isn't right.

  4. Your grandparent does this because in the era or time when he or she grew up, that is how kids ( including teens) were disciplined- and your grandparent does not know any other way to handle situations except this one. My mother's parents were like this when she was a girl, and some of that rubbed off on ME, as well- so I understand it. But using violence to discipline kids is JUST PLAIN WRONG, because it sends a contradictory message to the child. It's IMPOSSIBLE to teach ANYONE that hitting others and using violence to solve problems is wrong by HITTING THEM. IT JUST DOESN'T WORK- and this is the reason why corporal punishments such as paddling have largely been BANNED at most schools and school districts across the country. When someone uses violent acts, such as hitting or slapping, to solve a problem, one of two things typically happens: either they make an existing problem WORSE, OR THEY CREATE A NEW PROBLEM where there wasn't one to start with. Also, you need to remember that pain of ANY SORT, regardless of the type, ALWAYS ESCALATES people and situations- it NEVER SLOWS THEM DOWN !!! When a person is hurting, they are much more likely to become defensive and retaliate towards whatever is hurting them, than they are to listen to reason and calm down. Likewise, NO ONE I have ever met EVER listens well when he or she is angry, scared, or in pain- that's just human nature. Were you around on 9/11? Do you remember the films of people running in PANIC and screaming when the Twin Towers collapsed in flames?? That's a good example of what happens when people are scared and upset, the way every American was that awful day. If you had tried to tell anyone who was there that day to calm down and that things would be okay, they would either have ignored you, or you most likely would have been run over by the thousands of people scambling to get away from the burning, collapsing buildings.

In short, what I am saying is that violence of any sort SOLVES NOTHING- it just begets MORE VIOLENCE. Threatening kids, or anyone else, with physical punishment will NOT solve whatever problem the child has- it will only make things worse. If your grandparent does this to you, you need to tell someone about it- preferably someone outside your family. Good luck.
