  1. It leads to copious amounts of beer drinking. I say that not to be a smart a$s, but that really is a part of our culture and it is aided a great deal by hockey. Whether it is whilst watching it on the television at home or at a bar, or with friends at their homes, after a pick up game, and even the fathers (and mothers at times) after little league/pee wee games.

  2. You saw how big of a deal the HNIC theme song was to us. Hockey is very important to our country. We might not get into wars for other things but if you were to insult hockey in front of a Canadian...then may God help you. Plus for most of the year our weather is cold and snowy, the perfect weather to play hockey. And it's become a tradition to watch HNIC on Saturday Nights...hearing the song used to get me pumped up because I knew the Saturday game was going to start.

  3. The sport is woven into the very fabric of Canadian society. It has served as a bonding element between fathers and sons, childhood friends and families, in general, for generations upon generations.

The image of a family sitting around a fire and listening to Foster Hewitt call a Saturday night game is at the very core of Canadian culture.

Where else in the world would a large chunk of a society be in an uproar over a television network walking from a lead-in theme song? Only in Canada and only when it comes to hockey related matters.

  4. Canadian culture is hockey... nothing else about it
