it's true, and it's sad, I too grew up on that song. A few years ago I was in Croatia ( for work ) and a fellow speaking Croatian walked up to me in a pub, pointed to my Leaf hat, hummed that tune, smiled, then bought me a beer. We're not the only ones who will miss this song, the world will miss it. HNIC has been a part of my family from Foster Hewitt in the 30's ( on radio ) til The Coach now. 4 generations of tradition, and while our " anthem " only started in 68, it has become entrenched in that tradition, not only in Canada, but internationally. The show, the game, the song, everything about it is uniquely Canadian, and to lose any part of it would be like losing a part of ourselves

The official deadline was noon Wednesday to negotiate a new deal for the writer. That was, of course, only the first official deadline. IMO, it's just a negotiation tactic by the CBC to get it cheaper. Anybody else going to pay her more than $60K a year to use a 40 year old jingle that is synonymous with one thing only? Besides, it's not like the CBC has never (*cough* Coach's Corner *cough*) bowed to fan pressure before.

yeah and i think it became oficial! there was a article about it this morning in the news paper! its sad it was our secong anthem, our tradion and we definatly goin to miss it!

All canadians are coming to miss it SOOO much. Everyone grew up on that song. They are saying that there is some contest to find a NEW song. Who wants a new song..we want our old one back!!
