Holding A Riding Crop?

i used to ride alot but then i quit around a year ago... and my friend has just asked me if i want to go riding with her (she has two ponys of her own) and i cant wait!

but im just trying to remember everything i learnt! =S and i cant remember which hand you hold a crop in - is it the oustise hand or the inside? thanks! xx =]

I agree, inside hand, but only if you are in a show does it truly matter.  If you are not showing, as long as your horse won't shy away from the crop to the inside, you CAN hold it on the outside.  I am VERY left handed and always hold the crop in my left hand when I am not showing.  But, my horses don't shy away from it.


  2. inside, but you will get a lot more oppinions if you put this in the horse section in "pets". but yeah, inside hand unless you have a horse that is stiff on the outside. have fun!

  3. if you are riding alone it's the right side, if you are riding side by side

    with someone else, it the opposite side their horse is on, so you don't

    spooked the other horse.
