  1. There are a couple of ways to "patch" sound from your tv through your new home theater system. If you are using a digital satellite system or digital cable box you will simply hook a standard RCA stereo audio cable (red and white ends) from the back of the satellite/cable box (audio out) to the Video 1 or Aux 1 input on the back of your home theater system. If you do not have digital satellite or a cable box, try using the audio output from the rear of the tv to the Video 1 or Aux 1 input on the home theater system.

Some more expensive or high definition boxes have a optical output you can hook up to the home theater system for even better sound. The method you connect is the same you just use a different cable. This however, may require input defining on the home theater system menu.

Bear in mind that just  because you are  patching tv sound through the home theater system it does not mean you will be watching tv in surround sound, which is 5 or more channels of sound. Most television programs are recorded in stereo, meaning a left and right channel only. Some HBO and other premium channel movies are recorded in SS but are few and far between.
