  1. 1. our fascination is he's not like the average dad, and he's funny.

    2. he's important because life must have humor and randomness somewhere... and he's it!

    3. the connection i have with homer is i'm basically an idiot!

    4. i am drawn to him because (as i already mentioned) he's funny. he's pretty much just a lovable character.

    5. i admire him because he loves his family. and you have to have that!

  2. Here's some info I found - hope it gives you something you can use for your assignment.  It's hard for anyone else to answer the questions posed as a personal opinion.  You'll have to decide what/and why you like Homer.

    The Life-Story of Homer Simpson

Homer J Simpson was born on the 12th of May 1956. He has a half-brother, Herb, and a younger brother, Pepe. Named after a blind Greek poet, our hero was destined for stardom from birth. Homer now lives at 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield with his wife and three kids, and weighs 239 pounds (which you obviously wanted to know). He's a safety inspector at Springfield power station and socialises with friends Barney, Lenny and Moe. Homer won the first 'Annual Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence' and he's even a qualified monorail driver. His talents have no limits.

Homer Jay Simpson is a fictional character in the animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta and first appeared on television in the Tracey Ullman Show short "Good Night". He is one of five members of the titular family and has become the most popular and influential character in the series. Homer embodies several American working class stereotypes: he is crude, overweight, incompetent, clumsy, thoughtless, and lazy. Despite the suburban blue-collar routine of his life, he has had a number of remarkable experiences.[1] He has occasionally displayed flashes of great intellect and fitness when situations have called for them. He also possesses an integrity that reflects his own values, including a fierce devotion to and protectiveness of his family.

Homer was created by cartoonist Matt Groening and named after Groening's father. He made his television debut on April 19, 1987 in the Tracey Ullman Show short "Good Night". In the shorts and earlier episodes, his voice was a loose impression of Walter Matthau but eventually evolved into a more robust voice during the second and third season of the half-hour show, allowing Homer to cover a fuller range of emotions. Homer has since become one of the most influential fictional characters and has been described by the UK newspaper The Sunday Times as the greatest comedic creation of modern time.[2] He has inspired an entire line of merchandise and his catchphrase, the annoyed grunt "D'oh!", is now included in the Oxford English Dictionary.

    Biography

Although The Simpsons has a floating timeline in which the characters do not age, and the show is set in the current year, certain dates have been given although sometimes these dates are contradicted. Homer was raised on a farm by his parents, Mona and Abraham Simpson. In the mid-1960s, while Homer was six years old, Mona went into hiding following a run-in with the law.[3] Homer attended Springfield High School and in his final year in 1974, he fell in love with Marge Bouvier.[4][5] Marge became pregnant with Bart, while Homer was working at a miniature golf course and the two were wed in a small wedding chapel across the state line. After that, Homer secured a job at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.[6] Marge became pregnant with Lisa and, soon after, the new couple bought their first house. Homer took a job as a pin monkey in a bowling alley but, unfortunately for Homer, Marge became pregnant with Maggie shortly after he started his new job and, not being able to support his family, he went back to the nuclear plant.[7] Although past episodes stated that Bart and Lisa were born in the 1970s and 80s, the season nineteen episode "That 90's Show" contradicted all this and revealed that Homer and Marge lived without any children in the early 1990s.[8]

Homer's age has changed as the series moved on; he was 36 in the early episodes,[9] 38 in season eight,[10] and 40 in the eighteenth season,[11] although even in those seasons his age is inconsistent.[1] Part of the reason his age was changed was that during Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein's period as showrunners, they found that as they aged, Homer seemed older too, so they changed his age to 38.[12]

Homer has had many different jobs, over 188 in the first 400 episodes.[13] His default job is the Nuclear Safety Inspector at Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, which he has had since "Homer's Odyssey", the third episode of the series.[14] Matt Groening decided to have Homer work at the power plant becaus
