  1. My three older kids really like Abeka.  I don't have the money to buy all new books every year, so I go to a second-hand homeschool book store a few times during the summer and pick up whetever they have available (overabundance of teacher's keys, curriculum outlines, visual aids, flashcards, etc. .  I usually have to buy the test booklets and workbooks online, but they're cheaper in comparison to the teacher's books, which can always be reused or sold.  If there's a place like this near you, I suggest checking into it.  Link below to unbiased overview of a few curriculums.  Hope you find the right fit the first time!  Good luck!

  2. You need to ask more than that. What are you looking for in a curriculum? There is so much out there but there are so many philosophies on Home schooling. First decide the why you want to home school and then look for a curriculum. Is money your #1 concern? Then you probably can find a book in your library on how to do it absolutely free. Lot's of free websites. But it's a whole lot of work.

  3. Try reading John Holt's "Learning all the Time".  Learning can be such much more fun without a set curriculum.

  4. This is very hard to answer since the best curriculum for one family may not be the best for the next family, or even for all the children in one family.

The best is the one that fits your child's learning style and also the parent-teacher's.  Another factor is your goal for curriculum - just the basics, or more of a classical approach, a child-led approach, etc.

And the comment "for the money" depends on a lot of factors.  For some, $300 for curriculum may be hard and for others $3000 may be fine for them to spend.

We'd need to know more details to really help you out.

  5. I've asked this question for 4 years and my son is only three.

After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that I have a few viable options. I can tailor my son's curriculum, based on what I think is important for him, or I can go with a packaged curriculum and follow the outlines provided.

While my son is only in preschool, I'm getting my feet wet, by teaching him as much as I can, without snuffing out his desire to learn. I use a medley of sources to teach my son and have discovered that there is no, one specific package that contains all that I want him to have.

Ultimately, you may have to try a few different sources, before finding what works best for you and your child(ren).
