Homeschooling in Louisiana!?

Heeey. My mom is planning on homeschooling me this year and uh, we live in Louisiana. Slidell, to be exact. So we checked that website with homeschooling laws for every state (forgot what it's called, but you probably know what I'm talking about) and we two options. We decided on the second one, which is the private school.

But we were wondering, for those of you who homeschool in La or just anybody who would know the answers to these questions, does the letter have to be printed or is it okay to write it out on just, notebook paper? And who would we mail it to, exactly?

Thank you sososo much! :) Also, any suggestions on where to get books and stuff would be great. We plan on just throwing it all together instead of buying one of those pre packaged curriculums.

  1. E mail me with your email address and I will send you the copy we use! All you will have to do is edit where I have indicted. It has the address and all the information you will need.

Also contact the St tammany home educators group. They are currently enrolling Co-Op. http://www.tammanyhea.org

Any other questions about La home school feel free to contact me.

Edited to add: take the Civics course if you enroll in Co-Op the teacher is really cool! Ok you have to love your sister! LOL!

  2. Most states require that you fill out a form for Private Non-accredited Schools, at least Kansas does.  This can usually be filled out on your states department of education website, or call the Louisianna Dept. of Education and ask them to send you a form.

If you previously attended a public school, TYPE a letter stating that you will be leaving the school to be homeschooled so it can be placed in your school records.  The Homeschool Legal Defense Association website: www.hslda.org  can give you some more information about what the school can and cannot require, as well as state requirements.

As for books, I used ABEKA book and ordered what I needed but there are many places you can get books.  Saxon math books are good and can be gotten at some local christian bookstores or you may also try used book stores like half-price books.  Doing a search online will also yield a variety of companies that cater to homeschoolers.
