Honestly, are these terrible names?

Question

Well, today I told my friend my name options, and he said they're really, really terrible, and it upset me, so I want some input! Are they seriously terrible? If so, which ones, and why? And don't say because they're "boy names" for the girls, they're not. They're unisex names. These are all first names, no middle names.

I don't really love any of the girls' names.  I hate unisex names.  I think they're really ugly.  I know other people can like them, but I just completely fail to see their appeal.  So that rules out Sydney (which also sounds a little dated), Avery, Ainslee and Delainey.  Kaylee and Rylie are too cutesy for me.  Cute names are nice for a child, but for an adult they sound a little ridiculous.

Allyson is okay.  a little dull though.  Paige just has a bad ring to it in my ear.  Gemma is pretty.  I don't love it, nor would I likely use it, but I think it's the best of the bunch.  Allicea is okay.  The spelling is a little unforunate.

The boys' names on the other hand, are lovely.  I really like most of them.  Wyatt and Connor are my favourites - very strong, very intelligent.  They're very classy, timeless names.  Gavin is another one of my all time favourites.  The only name I don't dig is Hunter - it's a little too Harlequin Romance too me - a little to country hick.

I don't really see what your friend is talking about. He may just have a different taste in names but that doesn't mean that the names are terrible.

kaylee - because it is sooooo common

rylie - because it is spelt wrong

avery - because it is a bird cage

sydney - because it is a city

allyson - nice but spell it right ALISON

allicea - because no one will be able to spell or rponounce it right

malia - because it sounds like a dogs name

ainslee - nice spelt correctly AINSLEY

gemma - too common

Delainey - its a last name

paige - i like it

alden - sounds so old

noah - too religious

hunter - sounds like a horse-rider

ryder - look at hunter

cole - black stuff, and it is a last name

i think all the girls names are beautiful.

some of the boys names are just bland and kinda boring.

Malia would be my choice from the girls.

My favorites for the girls are Gemma, Sydney, and Kaylee. I don't think any of them are really that terrible but my lest favorite from the girls names is probably Ainslee

I like Noah and Gavin best from the boys names and again none of them are bad but my least favorite is Wyatt and Alden.

You are certainly free to name your child whatever you like, but since you asked for our opinions, I will also say that gender neutral names, or names that are more commonly associated with the opposite gender will be a pain in the butt for your kid.

From all the mentioned only Owen & Noah are real names.

Unfortunately Noah is a name your kid would be bullied for.

If you really want some creative naming buy yourself a pet, children are only harmed with unique names. Keep in mind that it's them that should be unique, not names.

Oh, I go out kinda often and I get the 'made-up name feeling' quite often too. It's not me being rude, I just miss Annies, Tonnys and so on a lot.

I dont like Ryder, cause being "a ryder" is something that is associated with gangs in England, where I live, and im not that keen on Hunter, because its kinda common.
