Please help. I am trying to hook my HD television to a AV amplifer, 7.2 surround sound system. I have a HDMI cable going from amphlifer to TV, but only the old coloured analogue cables going from DVD to amplifer. I can get sound from DVD, but no sound or picture to television. Is the one HDMI cable enough? Can this be done???? If so HOW????

Please help

  1. A difficult question to answer considering I don't know the make or model of your kit.By old analogue wires I take it you mean the rca connectors colored red/white/yellow.That should work fine just look in you HD TV Menu and set it up to accept input from that source, the same should also be true for HDMI support and make sure your amplifier is set to which input you plan to use.I know this isn't much help but I'm sorry that I'm not a psychic.A bit more info would be lovely ;-).

  2. first see if your dvd player is set to hdmi out and its working right: take the wires from the dvd player(r,y,w) and plug them in the tv, change your input on tv to were you plugged it in, and see if you get picture, if so, you need a hdmi coming from dvd to receiver, and receiver to tv, everything will sound and look great.

  3. Well you Need a converter from HDMI to analogue cables if your HDTV doesn't have any analogue inputs. So you can convert the AV cables to HDMI and then connect them to your TV's HDMI input.

    Hope it helps.

  4. It sounds like a set up issue, provide more detail on exact model numbers of all the equipment and you will get a better answer.
