Horse-BACK-riding?

I mean why do they call it horse BACK riding, its not like you can ride a horse in any other place.Seriously whould you be able to horse FRONT/TUMMY ride? why can't they just call it horse riding it would be so less confusing.

how could you possibly be confused??  you ride on the horse's back.  you yourself said that there's no where else to ride.

They probably call it horseback riding since you're on the horse's back as opposed to when you ride in the cart behind the horse.

cuz u ride on the horses back, so its horse back riding. I know that theres no were else to ride, but they just call it horseback rding bcuz they do.
