  1. Coal shovel for picking up horse do and a place to put the do

  2. First off, you don't need both grain and sweet feed.  Sweet feed IS grain only with a lot of sugar in the form of molasses.  You're better off with just rolled oats and hay.

    You need a lead rope with the halter.  For vet care, you also need a years supply of dewormers.  You will soon learn whatever else you need and what stuff you buy that you never use.

  3. Your list is looking great so far, but I would recommend a salt block, holder, and maybe some dried milk. (It's good for hooves) Vaseline can sometimes be useful...

  4. Horse people? You mean people that have horses, or people that look like horses? Lol jk. Be careful with your wording. By the way, the list looks wonderful. You will have a happy horse! Just make sure you add love to the list :]

  5. Salt block and holder (regular feed pan will work).

    Wormer

    At the barn I board at and my aunt's farm in the tack room there is a list of emergency contact numbers. Vet, farrier, etc. along with experienced horse friends - in case you need something or in case you are gone and who ever is taking care of your horse needs something.

    Always a good idea to have extra tack (anything that could break, halter, lead, bridle, etc.).

    Edit:

    Vaseline or SWAT is great to have - if you put it in their ears and under their jaw it keeps the bugs away.

    Those are the spots they are usually pretty bad - you can put it anywhere else too.

    SWAT is made to keep bugs out of wounds, but it can be used for either. It's more expensive though.

    Good luck.

  6. First Aid Kit for rider and horse

    1.Vet wrap

    2.Something that is used to clean wounds

    3.bell boots

    4.leg wraps for trailoring and all that.

  7. Water trough

    Salt block

    Mineral block

    Fly mask (depending on the horse)

    Powder electrolytes (we sprinkle some in the water trough...horses seem to love it!

    Lead ropes

    Short ties with quick release snaps on at least one end

    Hay mangers for stalls

    Feed troughs for stalls

    Fire extinguisher for barn

    Clippers

    For your first aid materials:

    Stethoscope

    Thermometer

    Scissors

    Furazone

    Zinc Oxide

    Penicillin

    Needles and syringes

    Blood Stop powder

    Betadine

    Duct Tape

    Roll cotton

    Animalintex

    Vet wrap

    Pocket knife

    Gauze (for traveling kits like you'd take on a trail ride you can pack a few feminine pads for heavy bleed injuries)

    I hope this helps.  You've done quite well with your list.  You can never have too many lead ropes or halters.

  8. Maybe you will need a SADDLE!!!

    and maybe a martingale, if it is a pleasure horse.

  9. LOOKING GOOD!!!

    I WOULD ADD...

    VASELINE

    COLIC SYRUP

    MEDIUM WEIGHT TURN OUT RUG

    OVER REACH BOOTS

    SUMMER RUG

    SWEAT RUG

    FLY RUG OR MASK

    SOME EXTRA SADDLE PADS OR NUMNAHS

    HOOF OIL

    A PLACE TO KEEP YOUR TACK

    ALSO SADDLE STANDS BRIDLE RACKS E.T.C

    ***OH AND ALSO...

    IF YOUR HORSE IS GOING TO BE DOING A LITTLE JUMPING I WOULD GET A COUPLE OF JUMP POLES AND STANDS!!! =]

    SORRY IF YOU THINK I'M BEING PICKY! =]

    I WAS GOING TO SAY SALT BLOCK HOLDER AND SALT BLACK AND BOREDOM BREAKER BUT PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY SAID THAT! =[

  10. all i see missing is a lead rope

  11. if it's just a pleasure horse, you really wouldnt need grain (or sweet feed) if you had enough pasture and hay. (i was just having a conversation about that this morning with a friend/trainer). grain is a high protien, good for keeping wieght on a horse that is being ridden in training. in our area the farms only feed grain once a day, b/c the horses mainly stay out all day/night. if it's just a pleasure horse, i wouldnt suggest sweet feed at all, and if you wanted to grain the horse, then use a grain that is not sweet feed. . . you could always ask a vet to suggest what/how much to feed you're horse grain wise.

    you really wouldnt need:(unless you really wanted it/the horse had special needs)

    push broom (unless you had an isle way in the barn that was cement) for a tack room, a reg broom from the house would work ( that's what i use)

    rubber floor mat, unless you're horse pawed the ground.

    grain scoops (use coffee cans... it's cheeper)

    grain containers as in the ones you get from tack stores, use a foot locker/metal trash can. it's again cheeper and holds alot more.

    ~~~~
    i'd also get electric fencing (it's cheeper, easy to use, and you can change field sizes and rotate fields easier)
    also instead of round penn panels i'd use again the electic fence with wood coners (our fields are electric fencing, but the corners, gate area, and different areas of the fence line are made of wood/wood posts)
    i'm all about saving money.  the list is a good list that has most everything, very thought out. but like i said above, save money and you dont really have to buy all that unless the horse needs it.
  12. Bella:  People with/around horse are referred to as horse people.  Apparently you are not one, or you would know this.
    ADD:  Banamine is always good to have handy (for extreme colic) and you will also needs dewormers.  Make sure you have a horse AND person first aid kit, as well.
