  1. Most jockeys are truly professional and try to win always, but they have a responsibility to the owner/trainer to take care of the horse. They can tell when a horse has nothing left to give and will not abuse the animal. As a horse becomes tired you risk senseless injury to the animal if you try to push him. Many fans mistakenly think a jockey is not trying or the race is fixed if they are not beating the horse to the wire. In reality most of the time they are doing the right thing for the horse.

  2. If I had to pick a jockey to ride for my life it would be A. P. McCoy

  3. A P Mccoy

    Richard Hughes

  4. Some jockeys always go for the win... but the SUCCESSFUL jockeys are the ones that consistantly finish place or show.. because when you are number one all the time, people are gunning for you...

If you can figure out the really good jockeys that usually finish 2nd or 3rd, then place your bets accordingly and you will do rather well.

  5. martin dwyer  (my brother) lol

ok, i know someone is gonna slag him off now

    good for you =]

    but he does try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I don't really think any jockey just "gives up" when they don't think they will win because their fee is determined by where their horse finishes. Typically, the winning jockey gets 10% of the purse, the second place jockey gets 5%, and third place gets 3%. If a jockey finishes fourth or even farther back he gets paid less than $100 for the ride.

  7. tony mc'coy-jump jockey.david mansell-amateur jump jockey.

  8. The thing to remember,no matter what people may infer otherwise, is that a particular horse is run for the benefit of the owner and not the punter.

The likes of Tony McCoy would appear to always try because they are given generally good horses with a chance, and in general are well placed to win or go close.

Any jockey who "tried" all the time, would not get too many good rides as part of the art of jockeyship is to lose when it looks like you are trying.

So stick to the top flight jockeys for a good run. Might not agree with Hughes tho' as I have heard mutterings implying he is a Bishops Crosier!!

  9. WILLIAM PIKE . CURRENTLY RIDING IN PERTH WESTERN AUSTRALIA ! WOULD CURRENTLY HAVE ONE OF THE BEST STRIKE RATES AND NOT ONLY ON FAVORITES , LONGSHOTS AS WELL .

  10. Good jockeys get good horses ......                                   All jockeys "try",when prize money is   good,or the race has arrived which the horse has been aimed for...Why should a 2 year old be pushed to hard and risk spoiling it forever..F Dettori,Tony Mac,Kevin name escapes Kevin Mwas most successfull jockey last year if back point per race you would have had 96% profit return...R Moores doing very well,..N Callan ..Mick Kinnane..But Frankie on his million or so retainer, always trys got no reason not to..Like that Paul Hannagan as young up and coming jockey..
