  1. The AQHA website is very helpful, they have lots of info you can download.

  2. not to sure about QH, i race standardbreds, but to get our horses ready, we work them up to jog 5-6 miles every day. two days a week work on speed.  make off your quarter on a good surface.  pick a pace he is comfortable with, start slow, and time it.  keep to that time for a week or two then try to take off two or three seconds.not sure what a good time is for you, but when we start training down, we start at 3:00 minute miles and after four months hope to be at 2:00 minute miles.

  3. contact the AQHA - American Quarter Horse Association and ask them.

  4. okay, this is not that easy and AQHA will not give you the help you are asking for.  First off, what kind of bloodlines does your horse have?  Simply being a qh does not mean that the animal can run a race distance let alone win.  Quarter horses are already racing at age 3.  If you have running/speed bloodlines you can start your horse now on a conditioning program to make him fit to run and put some wind in his lungs.  Any speed trainer can help you with a schedule for your horse.  Once your horse is fit to run, a racing trainer can make a proper assessment of what the speed potential and distance your horse can handle will be.  Good luck!
