  1. When we got our first horse everyone wanted to ride including my DAD! HA! my dad is not a rider or much of an animal lover. But when he got on and rode off like a couple of feet and guess what he did. He came right back to the barn and said "my back hurts!" wow. 2 seconds on the horse and got off. I just think he was scared. lol. i think it is so funny!!

  2. well dad bought me my first horse when i was 7. wich sparked a whole new futurre in horses. he past away almost five years ago, im 13  now and now my mom and i own two. that first naughty horse started me off loveing horses like no other wich is funny, cuz my dad hated animals :]

  3. I do have a memory that when I was around 10-11 yrs old my dad took me to a place so I can trail ride a horse for fun (I havent started riding horses yet). He joined and rode a BIG (I mean it was huge!) horse. I rode a horse a little smaller than his. Anyway, we were going into this small ditch and his horse stepped on a stick which unlatched the saddle and the saddle started sliding off to the side and I shouted at my dad, "Hold on to the mane!" He tried but then fell off. The horse turned, hopped over my dad, and galloped off. It was hilarious! He then walked by us and the lady who was leading us called somebody from the staff at the place. Then soon she hung up and told us they were galloping off to find the horse. It was a fantastic day. Happy Father's Day!

  4. The best recollection I have is when I was a wee one, my dad took me with him to check on the range cattle. He let me walk the horse as we walked a trail, and I thought I was hot stuff because I was leading such an enormous animal for my size. It made me feel very powerful that I could control something that big. For a little guy that was big stuff!

  5. If it wasn't for my father throwing money at (almost) every horsey whim I had as a child, I wouldn't be where I am today.

    Thanks Dad, your the best!

  6. My dad came home with my Shetland pony. Even tho we had horses. LOL

  7. well he has tought me to train some of the hardest horses to break to drive and ride i know of and he not only thinks about how save your going to be but how the horse might feel so he is the biggest blinking star in my horse life and a good one at that

  8. When I was 5 yrs old. I had a Shetland pony. He took the time to teach me to ride. Doesn't sound like much but in this hectic world we live in with work and things to do. His time was his time and he chose to spend it with me.

  9. Dad and horses hmmm...He is the one who started the horse madness around here LOL with Thoroughbreds fresh off the track, horses on crack and he would bring them home for us kids to retrain.  The funniest memory i have is when dad brought this Thoroughbred home and without giving it a second thought, he saddles her... leaves...I go outside and i found the horse all tacked up and is grazing...hmmm...thats odd...Then coming up the driveway is dad limping and laughing...I should tell you dad went riding in a pair of flip flop, why i dont know and only had one flip flop on we never found the other LOL...Well he said he decided to let her open up, big mistake, she run out from under him leaving him...She did buck him off LOL.  My dad died a long time ago but i will never forget that day, he thought it was funny...He is lucky he was able to walk home.  He would do goofy stuff like that all the time, im wondering how he survived as long as he did.  It was always an adventure here...I miss that man :(....

  10. My dad always tells me stories about him riding horses. And after riding for 5 years he's always interested in where I ride. Like he'll say "Hows Pipe doing?" or how high did you jump today. But my fondest memory was of when he came to  watch my first horse show  he looked sooooooooooo proud after I won 1st place!!!!

PS. Pipe is a pony I ride.

  11. The biggest role my dad played in my horse life, aside from financial, was to strengthen my resolve to stick with horses no matter what.  This was actually the opposite to what he was trying to do.  For years he told me "I think you should sell your horse when you go to college, then you can get back into horses some time after you graduate and get a good job".  This only made me vow to take my horse with me to college, which I eventually was able to do.  I have never been horseless since I got my first horse at age 11.

  12. It was my dad that showed me how to trim the horses feet when I was a kid

  13. He puts the saddle on my upity broodmare cinchy horse.

    Thats all. Helps alot.

  14. Well my dad is roped into towing the horse box everywhere! whether we are showing or just hacking out with friends from a diffrent yard.  Before i got my pony me and my dad hardly spoke but now we have a common intrest and spend hourse together while i ride he walks.  Like when we went onto exmoor he walked with me and now he has decided that he wants to lean to ride! I owe alot to my dad giving up his weekends to towing the box here there and everywhere.

  15. My dad never spent much time with me until I was about 13 and we got our first horse at auction.  My parents were divorced when I was very young.  Wow, 25 years ago.  Anyway, we started spending lots of time together eventually ending up with 6 horses.  We would go to shows, lots of auctions just for fun (back then anyway).  I remember eating the hot dogs, nachos and just hanging with my dad.  Now that I think about it, I guess I can credit horses for my dad joining in my life.  :)
