Hospital Visitation ethics...?

by  |  earlier

I'm a Christian Nurse and I plan to do hospital visitations soon. I would like to know what are the ethics to be observed upon entering, staying and leaving the patient's room.

What are the "Do's and Dont's"?

How many visitors are allowed to enter all at the same time?

What are the appropriate questions to ask?

etc.. etc.. etc..

Thank you so much!

God bless you all.

  1. It will all come to you natural.  No two people's needs will be the same.  Just take it one patient at a time, and I'm sure you will make an impact in their lives.

  2. Remember to introduce yourself and ask a patient if they would like to receive your services for spiritual support..many priest, pastors came into the room all the time and briefly pray for the patients..that is good thing..if a patient doesn't want you services, they will say so..

  3. each hospital has their own rules as far as visits and how long a visit can last...it also depends on the health of the patient...some hospitals are more lax and will allow a few visitors, but most its like 2 or 3 at a time...

  4. Could you tell us what you mean by "hospital visitation"? Or even "Christian Nurse"? I certainly hope it doesn't mean that you, dressed as medical personnel, are planning to visit patients at a time of vulnerability and inflict evangelism upon them in their weakened condition. If so, the very nature of such a visit would be unethical. I am especially troubled by the concept that more than one of you might go in at a time, essentially ganging up on the patient, or that you will start "asking questions." What kind of questions?? Sounds like a shocking invasion of privacy even if the patient, starved for company, has requested a visitor.

  5. Contact the "Quality Improvement" department of the hospital in question and ask them the rules and regulations for visitation. they will affirm or deny your right to visit a patient or patients for religious reasons, or any other reasons. They are the knowledgeable department in a hospital.Just ask for the department and they will tell you over the telephone or let you make an appointment to discuss it with you depending on their procedure.
