Hot spots on my golden retriever?

I have a one year old golden retriever who has acquired several hot spots over the last two weeks. I work at a rescue and have some experience with hot spots, but never my own dogs. I bought some anti-itch spray so she wouldn't irritate the spots. I figure if she keeps itching, I could give her benedryl. Is there anything else anyone recommends or anything you have had success with?

I just took my dog to the vet for his hot spots, the vet gave me a cream called panolog and pills called novolexin. My dog seems to like the cream, I think it soothes it. The vet also shaved the area to keep it clean and easy to apply the cream.

First you have to trim away any fur that is around them.  Hot spots will get worst because the fur hold moisture into the area and will cause infection to set in.  If you catch them early enough then keeping them clean and dry will help alot.  Also get some Gold Bond medicated powder.  It does work.

If you find that all your efforts have failed then you need to get the dog into the vets for treatment!
