Hotels in Charleston, SC?

Question

My husband and I are going to Charleston, SC. Any suggestions on what decent hotel we can stay that are not expensive? Please only answer if you are from Charleston or have been to Charleston. Thanks.

go with something like the hampton inn..we stayed at the ramada...you figure a nice hotel...the prices were the only thing nice...there was a wedding or family reunion..the halls were full of talking shouting people..the pool was closed the entire time we were there for the party...the front desk did not tell us this when we made our reservations..the coffee cups in the room were filthy...and this was a five star rated hotel..it was the worst we have ever stayed at..the only nice thing about it..was the sleep number beds..but we have stayed at many hampton inns..and have never had a problem with any of them....we had a blast other than the hotel...it was great
