House buying tips needed please!

Question

Right now I am renting an apartment because I can't afford to buy a house until I get my car paid off.

My question is: When you bought your house did you have any regrets of stuff that you didn't do that you should have done? I'm trying to think of any and everything I need to get ready so that when the time comes I won't have an overwhelming list of things to do.

Any tips or suggestions on what I can be doing to get ready?
